The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2

Updated: Apr 6, 2020

As I caved myself into that deep, red plush seat and let myself be captured by the big screen in front of me, I reminded myself: this is it. This is the final installment of one of your favorite series, The Hunger Games… WHAT?!

I can’t even begin to explain just how phenomenal this film was. Let’s start by setting down the basics; we are set in a dystopian Capitol, uprisings after uprisings… And Katniss has had it. She is portrayed as the “Mockingjay,” a lone spirit, free of control, full of resistance and rebellion. Peeta is still shaken up and blinded from reality ever since his daily torture and Gale is, well, Gale. Does he really ever have a worry in the world other than Katniss?

As the Mockingjay, Katniss’ job is to put up a façade of hope and lead the slaves to becoming an army. She, along with other victors, create an elite group with a plot to fight and kill President Snow during the war over Panem is at its peak. This brings unfortunate, dreary deaths, in which I advise that you prepare yourself for. There was absolutely no difficulty in watching the actors as they are all so talented that they immediately mesmerize and take you into the story with them.

It’s safe to say that the director of this film, Francis Lawrence, is a genius and executed a seriously spot-on film with the rest of the crew. So perfect that I may even say it’s just as awesome as Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows, which takes a lot for someone like me to say. The sole meaning behind the series was extremely clear in this last movie and is brought out on the big screen in a terrifyingly beautiful way, creating the perfect aesthetic that most young adult films lack.

Mockingjay Part 2 sends out an important message to young adults everywhere to take the topics of war and brutality seriously—which happens to tie in perfectly with todays fatal occurrences. This film is rated PG-13 for its intense sequences of violence and action, and for some thematic material. Because of its flawless composition, I rate this film five out of five stars.

Rating: 5/5
